Cornwall Athletic Club runner Ryan Hanley came home in an impressive time of 46 minutes and four seconds to win last week’s ‘Meet Your Max’.
Organised by Truro Running Club (TRC), the 10km race started from St Clement’s Hill, home of Truro Rugby Club at 7.00pm, with prizes on offer for the first male and female finisher, along with age group prizes, team prizes, along with buffs, pasties and bananas for all finishers.
The event, the first club race in Cornwall since the outbreak of covid-19, follows a multi-terrain route which took in road, trail, track, hills and mud while also passing through Malpas and various other points across the city.
After a socially-distanced mass start, athletes had to contend with trip hazards including roots, loose stones and uneven ground but were warned before the start that the course was hazardous by its nature and that they were running at their own risk.
Despite the course description, 216 runners managed to complete the course, with Hanley first across the line. Newquay Road Runners’ international athlete, Eleanor Davis, romped home in a time of 47:07 which placed her second overall in addition to being the first lady.
After the event, Davis, who finished a minute and 40 seconds ahead of third-placed Alex Marples of Truro, said: “I enjoyed it. It was a really good course with some hills to bite you at the end. My recent training in the Lake and Peak Districts helped me attack those.”
Marples’ Truro club-mate Steve Reynolds came home in fourth (48.45), while Mile High pair John McWilliams (49:09) and Tom Howell (49:21) completed the top six.
