Shop team are good sports for the hospice
Whirlwind Sports are excited to be joining Children’s Hospice South West as community partner for Santas on the Run goes freestyle. Last year they got involved with Santas on the Run at the Eden Project as sponsors of the snow station

A Truro sports shop is backing this year’s Santas on the Run fundraiser for Children’s Hospice South West.

Whirlwind Sports will support the virtual event, which takes place on December 11-13 and usually sees hundreds of Santas pounding the paths of the Eden Project to raise funds for the charity.

Paul Billing, founder member of Whirlwind Sports, which also has branches in Falmouth and Helston, said: “Our family have been in business throughout the Duchy for over 30 years and know how important community, health and wellbeing is.

The outstanding work the hospice offers throughout our community is so vital and we are proud to support them in any way possible.”

Supporters are being encouraged to choose their own route, distance and festive attire making Santas on the Run goes Freestyle something everyone can get involved in.

Whether it is 2km run in a santa hat, 5 miles cycled in elf ears or a Christmas jumper walk, CHSW has a weekend full of festive fun planned.

There will be virtual warmups, fancy dress competitions as well as ways for local schools and businesses to become involved in the fun.

Whirlwind Sports is running a competition for schools taking part in their own Santas on the Run goes Freestyle. Twelve schools will receive 50 per cent off a £500 spend towards the cost of renewing their PE equipment and the 12 winning schools will be announced over the 12 days of Christmas.

Kiley Pearce, events fundraiser from CHSW, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be working in partnership with Whirlwind Sports again for Santas on the Run goes Freestyle. They are such fantastic ambassadors for being active and we hope that our event participants will also be excited about what Whirlwind Sports add to our event.”

Those taking part are being asked to raise sponsorship or make a donation to enable the charity to continue to provide care for children and families when they need it most, whether that be at Little Harbour children’s hospice, at home or virtually. Any participant who raises or donates £15 or more will also receive a medal.

Registration is free – simply register your interest at and join the event on Facebook by searching ‘Santas on the Run – goes freestyle’.
